![]() I think the EX47x's pickyness about the filesystem of USB attached media makes it unsuitable for FreeNAS. FreeBSD/NAS Booted, found all the attached hard drives but froze fairly far into the boot and then moments later shut-off - I could have turned on boot logging / snapped a pic of the point where it crashed but wasn't feeling motivated. I tried installing to a spare 500Gb WD drive. For those reading who aren't already aware: The EX47x is very picky about what it will let you boot from - if it's external/USB-attached it has to be either a CD/DVD-Rom or FAT/NTFS formated media. However the MSS refused to boot from the flash drive. I tried installing to a 1Gb USB flash drive. ![]() ![]() The install is keyboard interactive and unlike before (USB attached keyboards would panic FreeBSD) the USB keyboard worked and didn't crash FreeBSD! I couldn't verify the NIC but the link status was active/Gigabit on the switch - FreeNAS did not try to obtain an IP at this point. With the onboard sata controller set to 4P(IDE)+4S(IDE), FreeBSD is able to detect all internal and external drives (this includes those in the port-multipler enclosure!). Booting from USB CD/DVD Drive works great.
